Our mission at Om Company (“Om”) is to help people achieve peace of mind by making it easier to create a legal will and emergency care plan online. We leverage emerging technologies to disrupt how legal services are rendered to people, in the process making services such as wills and estate planning more accessible. To truly achieve this mission, Om has partnered with Canada’s leading legal innovation center, Ryerson DMZ’s Legal Innovation Zone.
November has been designated Make-a-Will Month by the Ontario Bar Association (OBA). This month is used by OBA to encourage its member lawyers to educate and help people understand the importance of completing a will.
At Om one of our core tenets is to educate people, so we are supporting OBA’s mission for the month of November through education and live, online Q&As. In order to appropriately create our educational content, our in-house research team surveyed Ontarians to gauge their existing knowledge and understanding about wills and estate planning.
Here are some highlights from our research:
People are confused about estate planning and think it’s an expensive process.
Ontarians think a lawyer is required, when it isn’t.
We found these stats alarming as people are not accessing essential legal services due to misinformation. Om’s educational content strives to resolve misinformation and to dramatically increase accessibility to legal services such as estate planning.
If you do not have a will or emergency care plan, get started today.
If you already have a Will, use Om to refresh your Will and to stay up-to-date in the future with unlimited, free updates.
About Om Research: The survey was conducted using a sampling methodology known as “organic sampling”. This methodology randomizes delivery of surveys to targeted populations by delivering them to users who are already engaged in the mobile apps they have installed. This methodology includes machine learning technology to detect and remove questionable responses from survey results as an added measure of data quality verification.
